Security Crises Can Come From Anywhere. Are you Prepared?

Security Crises Can Come From Anywhere. Are you Prepared?

If you have never had a first-hand encounter with danger in a corporate office setting, you are in the minority. A majority of office buildings and businesses will face security threats at one time or another. In fact, one in seven Americans doesn’t feel safe in their workplace. When a security crisis arises, you as a business owner have one critical question to answer: Are you prepared?

One of the best ways you can ensure that your workplace is safe from any crisis or threat is by hiring security professionals. Security officers have a responsibility to protect. Officers are well-trained to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, work on the front lines of a crime scene, and take the right actions immediately, sometimes before medics and police officers are able to arrive.

Nick Navarro, an owner of a Florida security company, said security officers are efficient at defusing the onset of threatening circumstances.

“More and more security officers are being hired and are much more visible. Often they are the first responders to situations,” Navarro said.

When a fire, active shooter, break-in, or other dangerous situation occurs at an office, security officers are able to handle and alleviate these threats and many others, ensuring a safe workplace for employees and visitors. The best security officers lead victims to safety, choose the most advantageous response to the present danger, and provide immediate action to discourage further progression of any crisis.

One example of a heroic security officer acting as a first responder involves a New York security officer, who stepped in at just the right time to save the lives of a father, a young son and potentially many others. This officer de-escalated an active shooter and led the potential victims, a father and son, to safety in the wake of the event. The officer delayed the shooter in the crucial moments before the police were able to arrive and detain him. You can read more about this event here. This is just one of the many examples of how officers can step into a dangerous situation, provide safety to the premises and bring peace of mind when a security threat arises.

When you’re working, your attention must be devoted to your business, your people and your customers and/or clients. You shouldn’t have to devote any of your limited time in your work schedule to worrying about a workplace crisis and how you and your employees might take action. Instead, leave it to security officers to educate, guide and protect your business and employees in the event of danger.
